Optional add-on
SmartCom Cloud
Set a connection up once and have it on every machine you use. Share a set of buttons with the people you work with. Sign a lost laptop out from a browser.
The application does not need this
SmartCom Revisited is free and complete on its own. Every connection, button and script works with no account, and keeps working if this is switched off, unreachable, unpaid, or never signed into. Nothing here is ever on the path between you and a terminal.
What it does
Your machines, in step
Connections, folders, button sets and buttons sync between the machines you sign in on. Edit a host on your laptop; it is on your desktop next time you open it.
Team workspaces
A shared set of connections and buttons for the people you work with, with owner, admin, member and read-only roles. Your personal workspace stays yours — a team never sees it.
Device control
Every machine signed in is listed, and any of them can be signed out from here — including the one you have just left on a train. Revoking is not a remote wipe: that machine keeps everything it already has and goes on working offline.
Two-factor and an audit trail
Codes from an authenticator app, recovery codes for when the phone is lost, an email whenever a new device signs in, and a log of everything that has happened to the account.
What it does not do
- Passwords and key passphrases are never uploaded. They stay in your operating system's own credential store — Keychain, DPAPI or Secret Service — on the machine you entered them on. A synced connection carries the host and the username, and you enter the credential once on each machine.
- Your scripts and global variables stay put. Both are files on disk that SmartCom reads rather than owns, so syncing them would mean overwriting a file you might be editing. They are yours to put in git, Dropbox or a network share.
- Nothing is deleted if you stop paying. Your machines keep their own copy — that copy is the real one, and the cloud is only a peer that syncs it. The cloud copy becomes read-only: you can still pull it down, you just cannot push to it until the subscription resumes.
