Button sets per connection

Added in 1.3.0.

A connection can name the button sets it uses. Open a session to that host and the panel shows those sets and nothing else. Open a session to something else and the panel changes with it.

This exists because the app now ships with 2,714 buttons. A panel that lists every Cisco, Junos, FortiGate and Asterisk button you have is not a feature when you are on one switch — it is a scrolling problem.

Setting it

Edit the connection and tick the sets it should show. That is the whole of it. The choice travels with the connection, not with the machine, so it is the same on every session you open to that host.

Leave it empty and nothing changes

A connection with no sets named shows every set, exactly as it always did. That is what every connection you already have looks like after upgrading to 1.3.0, so nothing moves until you decide it should. There is no migration to run and nothing to undo.

It is a filter, not a lock

  • The footer says how many sets are out of sight — the panel never quietly pretends you have less than you do.
  • One click shows all of them for the current session. Nothing is hidden from you; it is hidden from the default view.
  • Showing everything is per-session and temporary. Close the session and the connection is back to its own list, because the point is that you do not have to tidy up after yourself.

How this differs from hiding sets

Hiding a set is a view setting on your machine: it applies to every session, whatever you are connected to, until you change it. Naming sets on a connection is a property of the connection: it applies to that host and follows it about.

They work together. Hide the sets you never want anywhere; name sets on the connections where you want something narrower still. And a Favourites set ignores both, so the handful of buttons you use everywhere follow you between hosts.

The pickers got a search box too

"Run another button", "run a whole set" and the startup-script picker used to be plain dropdowns listing every button on the machine. With a couple of thousand installed, that stopped being usable. They are filtering comboboxes now — start typing and the list narrows.
